Posted on

Anxiety may feel different for everyone. For some, it may feel like you can't breathe, eat or sleep, and for others, it might feel like all you want to do is sleep and eat. Some people feel like they cannot function normally, or they may feel like whatever they have anxiety about consumes every single thought. You might not be able to be in the present because you are too anxious fr nervous about something else on your mind. Whatever your anxiety is about, how you handle it is what matters. Getting your anxiety under control is very important. Read on for a few things you can do to help with your anxiety.

Focus On Your Breathing

When you are having times of high anxiety, you should take these moments and practice breathing techniques. One breathing technique you can do is to take a deep breath in through your nose for 7 seconds, hold it for 4 seconds and then slowly blow your breath out for 7 seconds through your mouth. This helps slow your breathing and helps to calm yourself as well. There are other breathing techniques you can do as well, which is to simply breathe in your mouth and out of your nose with your eyes closed as sort of a meditation process.

Figure Out What Triggered Your Anxiety

Take a minute to figure out what actually triggered your anxiety, then see if there is something you can do about that trigger. If your anxiety was triggered by an upcoming meeting or some big presentation you have at work. Your anxiety isn't going to change the outcome of whatever is coming and worrying about it isn't going to help with anything either. Knowing and acknowledging these things can help ease your anxiety. If you have other things that trigger your anxiety that you may be able to change can also help with your anxiety. For instance, if you have anxiety because you have a big list of things you need to get done, you may be able to ease your anxiety by actually asking for help. For some, anxiety happens because you try to take on too much yourself and don't ask for help enough.

Go To Therapy

Therapy can help with anxiety as well. Sometimes just talking about your anxiety and acknowledging that you have anxiety can help your situation. Therapy is another way of asking for help, and it helps prevent you from keeping it all bottled up inside. Going to therapy can also help give you other techniques and can offer a different perspective for you.

If you have anxiety, you aren't alone. There are millions of people that suffer from anxiety, but asking for help and getting the help you need can help ease your anxiety and help you feel more like yourself. Make an appointment for anxiety therapy and get back to living in the now.
